Benefits of Group Art Therapy
Group therapy can offer a range of therapeutic benefits. In his research, psychiatrist Irvin Yalom found that group therapy can provide experiences of:
Shared experiences – Hearing others share similar experiences may help folks realize they are not alone in their struggles and can help normalize their feelings.
Release – Expressing emotions in a supportive environment can provide emotional relief by releasing built-up tension.
Emotional support – In a safe, supportive and confidential space, group members can receive compassion and validation from one another.
Deeper understanding – Exposure to diverse backgrounds and viewpoints can promote a new understanding of how family and cultural factors can impact experiences, communication styles and coping strategies.
Hope – Listening to others’ insights and progress may help instill hope for one’s own journey and motivate them to overcome challenges.
Belonging – The group journey fosters a sense of unity, shared purpose and belonging.

*Everyone who identifies as a woman and non-binary is welcome. It's important to note the focus of this group will be centred on the socialization experiences of women and girls.
Mindfulness-Based Art Therapy Group
It can be challenging to silence those body-shame monsters. We receive a constant bombardment of messages that tell us our bodies are not good enough: our boobs, skin, legs, butt, stomach, nose, shoulders, cheekbones, lips, hands, feet… it goes on.
This group for women* aims to explore:
Our relationship with our inner critic
Societal and family messages**
Mindfulness and awareness of unhelpful thoughts
Making room for self-compassion
How to nurture and practice self-appreciation
We welcome people of all races and ethnicities, body part shapes and sizes, and physical abilities.
**Please note this group does not specifically address the aspect of body appreciation within the context of experiences related to ableism and physical disabilities.
This group for adults 18+ aims to:
Bring awareness to the mind-body connection
Create room for play and stress release
Explore polyvagal tools to calm the nervous system
Nurtures acceptance and self-compassion
This 8-week in-person group will be at The Hub in Huntsville, Ontario. Only 5 spots are available for this group.
